Secret Water

When recently walking to go play some ultimate frisbee behind the EMU baseball field, I noticed something on the side of  Cedarwood dorm that I had forgotten existed. Sitting in the mulch bed sat several black barrels and remembered that those barrels were the rain water collecting kind.  This system is set up to collect the rain water that falls off Cedarwood’s roof into barrels that store the water.  It’s later used to water the plants around the building, thus saving city water while keeping a section of the campus green. These barrels are a simple, inexpensive and often overlooked aspect of Cedarwood’s “green” design.
